Torchmark CEO Mark McAndrew and American Income CEO Roger Smith outlined a new charitable project at the SGA meeting in Los Cabos, Mexico in April of this year.
Closer to the Heart is a long-term project through which Torchmark Corporation, via its affiliate companies, extends its commitment to the community by making financial and service contributions to local programs that provide hands-on assistance in the communities we visit.
Torchmark partners with US-based humanitarian organizations that fund or operate programs in meeting and convention destinations. Funds will be solicited and Torchmark will match funds collected up to $100,000 (total for all affiliates) per year.
Representatives of our partner in Los Cabos, the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, were available to escort Roger and Mark on a tour of several projects they support. They visited the Casa Hogar Orphanage and Casa San Juan Diego, which focuses on services for the large migrant community in that area. Funds collected are earmarked to benefit these two efforts specifically.

Casa Hogar is home to approximately 28 orphaned or abandoned boys.
The facility can accommodate as many as 60 boys, but are limited by funding.

Mark McAndrew said the goal of Closer to the Heart is to “leave the places we visit better than they were before we came.” “We have all been blessed abundantly, and I encourage everyone to open your heart and your wallet in a big way to support these worthy causes,” added Roger Smith.
AIL of New Zealand wants to continue to help others around the world by contributing $1,000 US dollars for the Close to the Heart Charity Campaign. Steve Friedlander delivered this cheque to Roger Smith CEO of AIL, Larry Hutchinson, Glen Williams of Torchmark at the Annual AIL Convention in the Dominican Republic.
To date, approximately $33,000 has been raised to help the children of Los Cabos.
