- Dogs – Never leave a dog alone with a child under the age of 5.
- Some pet toys and chew bones present a potential choking hazard for your pet when small pieces are broken off or only small pieces of bones remain.
- Birds – Avoid exposing birds to fumes from self-cleaning ovens and overheated cookware, automobile exhaust, tobacco smoke, glues and paints, insecticidal fumigants.
- Birds – Keep Prescription and over-the-counter drugs out of break’s reach, preferably in closed cabinet. Painkillers, cold medicines, anticancer drugs, vitamins and diet pills are all examples of human medications that can be lethal to birds, even in small amounts.
- Dogs and Cats – Keep cooking chocolate bars in a place where your dog or cat can’t get them. Cooking chocolate is high in a chemical called theobromine, a stimulant which can be fatal to a small animal.
- Dogs and Cats – Stringy objects, such as a ribbon or thread, can cause obstructions of the small bowel.
- Before buying a flea product for your kitten or puppy, ask your veterinarian for a recommendation.
- Dogs and Cats – If a product is for use only on dogs, it should never be place don cats; if a product is for use only on cats, it should never be used on dogs.
- When using rat, mouse, snail baits, or ant or roach traps, place the products in areas that are inaccessible to your companion animals. Some bait contains sweet smelling inert ingredients, such as jelly, peanut butter or sugar that can attract your pets.
- Aluminum Foil can cut a dog or cat’s intestines, causing internal bleeding, and in some cases, even death.
- Plastic Food Wrap can cause choking or intestinal obstruction. Some dogs will eat the plastic wrapping when there are food remnants left coating its surface.
- Remove your dog’s training collars whenever left unsupervised or crated. Never tie your dog by attaching a lead or tether to your dog’s training collar. Never leave your dog tied unsupervised in front of stores, restaurants, or supermarkets, as they can be harassed, poisoned or stolen.
